Siding for the rear side of the house

Yesterday, I began the process of adding siding to the long bare back wall of the house.

Several years ago, I ordered some custom cut wood plank siding for the house. The style is 10" Dolly Varden and copies the original 1947 siding except for thickness. The original siding was cut from old growth wood while the newer sidin is cu from wood genetically engineered for fast growth and is weaker.

I began by searching for transport sources. Two emerged: Home Depot 'Load n Go' trucks or U-Haul trucks. The Home Depot truck would not start because of battery issues, so I rented a 10' U-Haul truck.

After bringing the scaffolding home, I headed back and lost the passenger side mirrors due to a utility pole placed too close to the roadside. Fortunately, the agent informed me that I had insurance and there would likely be only a deductable of around $150 or so.

Confusion reigned at the rental store. Even after corrections, I drove away with more than I needed. The scaffold build started the same day and lasted till after 5pm.

There was a lot of mmakeshift improvisation involved. A couple oof things I discovered were the usefulness of bungee cords ans the mini-scaffold I purchased a few years ago.

The bungee cords were used to temporarily attach the screw jacks to the bottom of the scaffolds. The mini scaffold was useful when tiime came to lift the walk boards up on the scaffolding.

I used to bungee cords and lleaned the scaffold to attach the screw jacks. Should I do this again, I would use four bungee cords and forego the leaning proocess. The lening was done using an old broken folding ladder as a backstop.

The last step was to adjust the screw jacks to both level, and add height, to the scaffolding.

The next step is to remove the pprotective covering, then the drywall, then the nails.

I may need two more walk boards.

The siding is about 14' long. I may cut some into 8' lengths for easier handling.

Tentatively, I want to keep the doors in place but board over them for possible future use. I will hhave to trim the door framework to be flush with the house frame studs.
